CHAPTER 359 - STATE OF DELAWARE - EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the 168th Anniversary of the founding of the United States Marine Corps will be celebrated on Wednesday, the 10th day of November, 1943; and
WHEREAS, the unselfish devotion, courage and valor of those in this branch of the Armed Forces of our Nation will add immeasurably to the achievement of ultimate victory in the great struggle in which we are now engaged; and
WHEREAS, native sons and daughters of our State are proudly upholding and carrying forward the many glorious traditions of the Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, we especially take pride in the fact that Lieutenant General Thomas Holcomb, a Delawarean who has enjoyed a brilliant and successful career and has honored his native State, is now the Commanding Officer of the Corps,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Walter W. Bacon, Governor of the State of Delaware, do proclaim
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1943 as
MARINE CORPS DAY
and urge that all Delawareans observe this occasion in commemoration of the gallant service and the many sacrifices of those in this branch of our Armed Forces, and further request that appropriate exercises be provided for the boys and girls in our schools so that they may have knowledge of, and acquire a proper appreciation for the sacrifices and accomplishments made by the Marine Corps in order that all of us may continue to live as free men and free women, in a free land. As a token of our respect, let the flag of our country be displayed in all proper and suitable places.
