CHAPTER 53 - APPROPRIATION - COMMISSION FOR AID TO DEPENDENT CHILDREN

AN ACT APPROPRIATING MONEY TO THE COMMISSION FOR AID TO DEPENDENT CHILDREN.

WHEREAS, the Commission for Aid to Dependent Children is required by law to administer assistance to dependent children, such assistance to be granted to any eligible dependent child in such sum as to provide such child with a reasonable subsistence compatible with decency and health; and

WHEREAS, there has been a substantial increase in the number of families requiring assistance since the beginning of the fiscal year commencing on July 1, 1944; and

WHEREAS, there has been a substantial increase in the cost of living which has made it necessary for the commission to increase the size of the grants in order to provide a reasonable subsistence compatible with decency and health; and

WHEREAS, the funds heretofore appropriated for the use of the Commission for Aid to Dependent Children will be exhausted prior to June 30, 1945; and

WHEREAS, unless additional funds are appropriated by the State of Delaware to the said Commission it will be necessary for the Commission to curtail its assistance program for the balance of the fiscal year ending June 30, 1945, NOW THEREFORE,

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Delaware in General Assembly met:

Section 1. That in addition to any other moneys appropriated to the Commission for Aid to Dependent Children for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1945, there is hereby appropriated to the said Commission for Aid to Dependent Children the further sum of Thirteen Thousand Dollars ($13,000) as a deficiency and emergency appropriation for the general use of the said Commission in carrying out the work and duties thereof.

That the said sum shall be paid to the said commission on or before June 30, 1945.

Section 2. This act shall be known as a Supplementary Appropriation Act, and the funds hereby appropriated shall be paid out of the general fund of the State Treasury not otherwise appropriated.
