CHAPTER 3 - AMENDMENT TO CONSTITUTION

AN ACT PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE III OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE, RELATING TO THE TERMS OF OFFICE OF SHERIFFS AND CORONERS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Delaware in General Assembly met (two-thirds of all the members elected to each House agreeing thereto):

Section 1. That Article III of the Constitution of the State of Delaware be amended so that Section 22. thereof shall read as follows:

"Section 22. The terms of office of Prothonotaries, Clerks of the Peace, Registers of Wills, Recorders, Registers in Chancery and Clerks of the Orphans' Court shall be four years; and the terms of office of Sheriffs and Coroners shall be four years. These officers shall be chosen by the qualified electors of the respective counties at general elections, and be commissioned by the Governor."
