AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 1, CHAPTER 6, DELAWARE CODE ESTABLISHING NATIVE-AMERICAN DAY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE:

WHEREAS, Native-Americans have made significant contributions to the American culture for centuries; and

WHEREAS, Native-Americans are a sector of our society that embodies and personifies the American spirit; and

WHEREAS, a day honoring Native-Americans will serve as an educational tool for the general public, and raise awareness of the significant contributions this population has made to our history and heritage; and

WHEREAS, the first weekend in September after Labor Day is the annual Nanticoke Indian Pow Wow; and

WHEREAS, Nanticoke Indians are a significant part of the history and culture of Delaware.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE:

Section 1. Amend Chapter 6, Title 1 of the Delaware Code by adding a new section to read as follows:

"§ 603. Native-American Day.

The following day shall be commemorated in this State by appropriate ceremonies: The first Saturday of September that is after Labor Day, known as Native- American Day."
