HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 37 |
RECOGNIZING MAY 8, 2015 AS VICTORY IN EUROPE DAY IN DELAWARE. |
WHEREAS, the eighth of May marks the day in 1945 when Allies
formally defeated the Nazi Third Reich in Germany and German troops across
Europe laid down their arms; and
WHEREAS, with this monumental victory came the recognized end of
the Second World War in Europe, and the end of six years of despair and grief
around the world; and
WHEREAS, this victory also demonstrated the courage and endurance
of many renowned world leaders and their citizens; and
WHEREAS, great celebrations took place that day throughout Europe
and North America and continue to take place each year to commemorate the joy
and triumph associated with the momentous success; and
WHEREAS, this day provides an opportunity to remember and
honor the nearly 15 million casualties of World War II in the European theater
including over 300,000 Americans; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the 70th anniversary of Victory
in Europe Day; and
WHEREAS, it is important to encourage Delawareans to acknowledge
and appreciate this historic date for our country.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by
the House of Representatives of the 148th General Assembly of the
State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that we do recognize May 8, 2015 as Victory in
Europe Day in Delaware.
