HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

144th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 64

CALLING FOR DELAWARE'S CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO SUPPORT THE HEALTH CARE CHOICE ACT.

WHEREAS, Delaware consumers deserve as many choices and options when shopping for products for themselves and their families; and

WHEREAS, Delaware consumers should be empowered to use the Internet and other means to compare affordable health insurance policies; and

WHEREAS, the Health Care Choice Act, H.R. 4460, sponsored by Congressman John Shadegg of Arizona, will break down state-imposed barriers to insurance and allow individuals to purchase health insurance, in much the same way as they currently purchase auto or homeowner’s insurance, from states outside the one in which they reside; and

WHEREAS, the Health Care Choice Act would  reduce the number of Americans who have been unable to find affordable health care coverage as the health care industry would be compelled to price plans more competitively, meaning lower prices and better care for the consumer; and

WHEREAS, according to the National Center for Policy Analysis, for example, a 25-year-old male in good health could purchase a policy for $960 a year in Kentucky. A similar policy would cost about $5,880 in New Jersey; and       WHEREAS, rather than going through fifty different regulatory processes, this legislation will allow an insurance company to go through one process and sell to people in all fifty states.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 144th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the Delaware House of representatives urges Delaware's Congressional delegation to sponsor and support the Health Care Choice Act.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitably prepared copies of this resolution be sent to Delaware’s Congressional delegation.
