SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 11

RECOGNIZING DELAWARE TECHNICAL & COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN CELEBRATING NATIONAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE MONTH.

WHEREAS, in the year 2001, Delaware Technical & Community College is proud to join community college nationwide in celebrating 100 years of educating Americans; and

WHEREAS, in April 2001, Delaware Technical & Community College joins with more than 1,100 other community and junior colleges in America to celebrate National Community College Month in an effort to recognize past achievements and challenges for the future; and

WHEREAS, Delaware Technical & Community College, created by act of the Delaware General Assembly in 1966, has been serving a variety of educational needs throughout our state for over thirty-five years; and

WHEREAS, Delaware Technical & Community College provides exemplary training programs for employment opportunities, basic skills education, transfer education, distance education, and continuing education for more than 43,000 Delawaareans each year; and

WHEREAS, Delawareans benefit from the College's high-quality educational opportunities and programs offered at a reasonable cost, and a variety of services such as career development, job search assistance, and vocational and educational counseling, all within commuting distances from their homes; and

WHEREAS, Delaware Tech works in partnership with the business community, industry, educational institutions, health care facilities, and a variety of governmental agencies to provide job skills development and individualized training programs; and

WHEREAS, through these services and programs, Delaware Tech serves a continuum of students while meeting the diverse and changing educational needs of our citizens, filling a vital function within the State's higher education system; and

WHEREAS, because each year the large majority of Delaware Tech graduates are successfully employed in Delaware, the Community College continues to enhance the economic growth and stability of the State of Delaware:

NOW THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that April 2001 is hereby recognized as Community College Month in Delaware.

SYNOPSIS

This Resolution appropriately recognizes April 2001 as Community College Month in Delaware.
