EXTENDING THE SINCERE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE SENATE TO SENATE LEGISLATIVE FELLOW KAMA BOLAND UPON HER DESIGNATION AS "MISS DELAWARE, 1999."
WHEREAS, Miss Kama Boland of Hockessin, New Castle County, has been named by the judges of the Miss Delaware Pageant to be Miss Delaware, 1999; and
WHEREAS, while the Delaware State Senate traditionally has the honor of a visit from each year’s newly designated Miss Delaware and extending to her best wishes for a successful reign; and
WHEREAS, the Senate has had an opportunity in recent years to observe a number of former Miss Delawares at close hand, including former Senator Margo Ewing Bane, Miss Amy Voshell who worked for the Senate in 1998 and Mrs. Letitia Pusey McQuay, a current member the Senate staff, both of whom occupied that throne in the past, thereby providing us with an opportunity to observe the outstanding personal qualities that many of our former Miss Delawares have possessed; and
WHEREAS, with the choosing of Miss Delaware for 1999, the Senate has had an opportunity to get to know our new Miss Delaware "before the fact" because she is already a part of the Senate family, serving as one of the three University of Delaware Legislative Fellows working with the Senate staff; and
WHEREAS, those among the senators and senate staff who have been fortunate enough to work closely with Kama during her time among us have come to know her as a most remarkable young woman, a person who has the ability to work very hard, to focus on a goal and pursue that goal to a successful conclusion, and most especially as a very friendly, down-to-earth and unassuming person; and
WHEREAS, we have learned as well that Kama is a person of very deeply held principles and convictions who began at an early age to volunteer her time to assist those less fortunate than herself, particularly children whose lives have been impacted by the death of loved ones, by separation and divorce; and
WHEREAS, it therefore has come as no surprise to those of us who know her, and know also some of the outstanding women who have preceded her as Miss Delaware, that Kama has been chosen as Miss Delaware for 1999;
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 140th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that the members do hereby extend to our friend, Kama Boland, heartfelt congratulations and best wishes upon her designation as Miss Delaware, 1999, together with thanks for her hard work since January as a member of the Senate Majority Caucus staff.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the Senate do hereby extend to Kama all best wishes for success in her reign as Miss Delaware and in all her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Miss Kama Boland upon its passage.
